Youth are not just the future of the church; they are the here & now, hands & feet of Christ, active participants in the church! Here is one story of why we know that to be true:
In July of 2016, four of FCC's youth visited The Urban Mission Inn in St. Louis, MO for the first time. The Urban Mission Inn is located at Union Avenue Christian Church located one block from the Delmar Divide- a street that divides the rich from the poor, the white from the black, and manicured lawns from trash-covered sidewalks. Our youth spent the week cleaning up trash, helping out around the church, learning about justice issues in St. Louis and around the US, while also working in an urban garden and organizing donations at local thrift stores. Our youths' lives were impacted by the people they met and the places they visited. One youth was upset that we couldn't do more, that our one-week trip couldn't make a bigger impact by making the lives of those in need better. These young people have big hearts, open to everyone they meet and ready to experience and learn as much as they can.
Needless to say, youth are not just part of the church, but fully included, welcomed to lead & loved by all at FCC!
